Airbnb was born in 2007 when two hosts welcomed three guests to their San Francisco home, and has since grown to over 5 million hosts who have welcomed over 2 billion guest arrivals in almost every country across the globe.
Every day, hosts offer unique stays and experiences that make it possible for guests to connect with communities in a more authentic way.
Airbnb is a mission-driven company dedicated to helping create a world where anyone can belong anywhere. It takes a unified team committed to our core values to achieve this goal. Airbnbs various functions embody the companys innovative spirit and our fast-moving team is committed to leading as a 21st century company.
The Web Platform’s mission is to empower engineers at Airbnb working within our TypeScript monorepo to deliver innovative features with high velocity and quality, by providing foundational libraries, frameworks, and tools for development, testing, and release, while increasingly enabling developer productivity through AI-powered tooling (e.
g., Claude, Codex). With a focus on web-specific technologies and integrations, the team serves as a nexus between product engineers and platform-agnostic infrastructure teams, as well as shaping and ensuring the health of the monorepo itself.
Critical to achieving this is providing Airbnb’s web developers with high quality tools tailored to Airbnb’s unique needs. A key priority is delivering a best-in-class, out-of-the-box developer experience, where AI-assisted workflows, strong defaults, and clear patterns enable engineers to move faster with confidence.
The broader surface area of the team includes things like testing frameworks, developer environments, build systems and bundlers, CI pipelines, observability and experimentation libraries, editor integrations, and an internal web service framework.
These investments directly improve the productivity, effectiveness, and day-to-day experience of Airbnb’s web developers.
As an engineer on Web Platform, you will work on technologies that help shape an industry-leading end-to-end developer experience.
Contribute across the team’s surface areas to directly move our core metrics (developer experience, developer velocity, debuggability, performance, and reliability) while reducing cost
