Staff Software Engineer, GRC

About the Role

Vanta's mission is to help businesses earn and prove trust through continuous security monitoring and verification. The GRC (Governance, Risk and Compliance) organization develops and maintains Vanta's core product offerings, enabling enterprise customers to integrate their existing security and compliance programs seamlessly with the platform. As a Staff Software Engineer in GRC, you will drive long-term technical strategy, lead complex initiatives, and shape engineering excellence across the organization while influencing key decisions that affect your product area and the broader engineering structure.

Responsibilities

• Identify, scope, and lead large technical projects that establish the foundation for highly performant, reliable, and customizable systems with lasting impact.
• Drive a portfolio of complex initiatives spanning multiple quarters with iterative and sustainable results across product areas.
• Rally cross-functional teams to completion of initiatives, influencing outcomes without direct management authority.
• Make strategic technical decisions that prioritize long-term success and shape Vanta's technical direction alongside senior engineers and leadership.
• Champion engineering excellence by improving processes, methodologies, and technical practices across the organization.
• Guide teams through challenging technical decisions, balancing tradeoffs and resolving conflicts.
• Address product, technical, and operational challenges with clear, impactful solutions.
• Model collaborative behaviors and mentor engineers to elevate organizational performance.

Requirements

• Over 10 years of industry experience with deep expertise in one or more technical areas (e.g., frontend, databases, distributed systems, APIs, AI).
• Proven ability to lead complex technical initiatives, drive strategic projects, and improve organizational processes in fast-paced, dynamic environments.
• Mastery in system design and software architecture with strong ability to balance technical considerations and execution constraints.
• Extensive experience building user-facing SaaS products for both startup and enterprise users.
• Experience building 0→1 products and solving large-scale challenges in bias-for-action environments.
• Strong leadership and mentorship experience with a track record of elevating team capability.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and advocate for technical decisions across organizational levels.
• Openness to using AI to amplify skills and strengthen work, demonstrating curiosity and sound judgment in responsible AI application.
