Job Description

About the Role

Semgrep is building a new DevTools discipline to support both traditional engineers and a growing cohort of citizen developers who are leveraging LLMs to build production applications. This Senior DevTools Engineer role focuses on designing developer infrastructure and tooling that balances security, reliability, and developer experience in an agentic development environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and manage cloud-build environments that support agentic development workflows, moving development off laptops into centralized infrastructure while improving both developer experience and security posture
  • Establish the golden path for citizen developers, creating infrastructure and processes that enable non-engineers to build and deploy applications with built-in security, reliability, and redundancy
  • Partner with Engineering to make existing developer tools, codebases, and processes compatible with agentic workflows, including building and deploying supporting infrastructure and tooling
  • Bridge Engineering, Security, and TechOps stakeholders to ensure development processes meet the requirements of all three disciplines

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, with significant background in developer tooling, software engineering, or infrastructure engineering
  • Demonstrated experience designing, deploying, and maintaining AWS or GCP infrastructure at scale
  • Strong opinions on improving developer experience, backed by experience observing both effective and problematic DevEx patterns
  • Active interest in LLMs and agentic development workflows, with willingness to experiment and iterate
  • Proficiency in Python and TypeScript
  • Service-oriented mindset, with internal Semgrep employees as primary customers

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with cloud security, container security, and supply chain threat landscapes
  • Experience with SAST tools (Semgrep Code or equivalent)
  • Experience with SCA tools (Semgrep Supply Chain or equivalent)
