Job Description

About the Role

Mistral AI is hiring Applied Scientists and Research Engineers to drive innovative research and partner with clients on complex AI projects. You will develop state-of-the-art models across text, image, and speech modalities, apply novel research methods across diverse domains, and work cross-functionally with science, engineering, and product teams to deliver high-impact solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Run pre-training, post-training, and deployment of state-of-the-art models on large GPU clusters, managing distributed training challenges including memory optimization and multi-GPU communication.
  • Generate, curate, and evaluate data for pre-training and post-training pipelines, ensuring model performance meets and exceeds targets.
  • Develop tools and frameworks to support data generation, model training, evaluation, and deployment workflows.
  • Collaborate across teams to implement complex use cases using agents and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines.
  • Lead research projects and communicate technical findings with client research teams.

Requirements

  • Fluent English with excellent communication skills; able to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Expert-level proficiency with PyTorch or JAX.
  • Ability to independently navigate large codebases with minimal guidance.
  • Strong Python programming skills with focus on clean, readable, performant, and fault-tolerant code.
  • Self-directed approach to project execution and shipping work independently.
  • Demonstrated track record of success through personal projects, professional work, or academic contributions.
  • Collaborative mindset with low ego and commitment to continuous learning.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD or Master's degree in a relevant field (Mathematics, Physics, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Engineering), or exceptional candidate from alternative background.
  • Diverse research experience in areas such as agents, multi-modal learning, robotics, diffusion models, or time-series analysis.
  • Contributions to large-scale codebases used widely in open-source or industry settings.
  • Publication track record in top-tier academic journals or conferences.
  • Experience improving code quality through type checking, testing, and CI/CD pipeline enhancements.

Benefits

Mistral AI offers a comprehensive benefits package including healthcare coverage, parental leave, retirement plans, relocation support, wellness programs, meal and transportation allowances, and location-specific perks.
