Resident Care Assistant (RCA) - PRN

The Resident Care Assistant (RCA) - PRN role at Franciscan Ministries is based at St. Joseph's Village in Chicago, IL. This position provides care services to older adult residents in accordance with care plans and community policies while serving as a mentor to new associates through their first year. The role is PRN with pay ranging from $18.00 to $20.00 per hour.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a mentor to new associates by maintaining a structured mentoring relationship through the first year of employment, using a positive approach focused on strengths while promoting independence and problem solving.
• Monitor progress of new associates, complete mandatory competencies, and validate that competencies are finished.
• Commit time and share expertise to help new associates learn desired skills.
• Meet at regular intervals designated by department guidelines to provide feedback and coaching, evaluate progress, and help resolve issues.
• Help new associates develop a sense of belonging by fostering relationships with all team members.
• Provide ongoing feedback to supervisors on the status of new associates' progress.
• Provide supportive services to nurses and other associates as needed.
• Assist with or perform activities of daily living for residents in accordance with care plans and established community policies and procedures.
• Assist residents with lifting, turning, transferring, positioning, and transporting into and out of beds, chairs, bathtubs, wheelchairs, and lifts.
• Coordinate dining room services at assigned mealtimes, including set-up, clean-up, meal tray delivery, feeding assistance, and documentation of meal intake.
• Assist with monitoring residents' skin condition and report any issues such as reddened areas, pressure areas, or skin tears to the nurse and supervisor.
• Deliver nutritional supplements to residents at assigned times, provide assistance as needed to ensure intake, and document intake per community policy.
• Participate in life enrichment programming and provide meaningful activities to residents.
• Document resident care in a timely and accurate manner.
• Identify residents' physical and cognitive changes, make appropriate follow-up decisions, document findings, and communicate to appropriate associates.
• Assist residents with leisure time programming, including escorting to and from activities.
• Report any allegations of abuse, neglect, misappropriation of property, exploitation, or mistreatment of residents to the supervisor and Administrator/Executive Director.
• Follow appropriate safety policies and procedures at all times for the protection of all residents and associates.
• Adhere to all infection control policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned and comply with all policies and procedures and any updates.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• 1-2+ years of caregiving experience preferred.
• Basic computer skills, including the ability to navigate electronic medical records.
• Physical capability to assist with lifting, turning, transferring, positioning, and transporting residents.

• Employees working 2nd or 3rd shift receive a $1.00 per hour shift differential.
• All employees working weekend shifts receive an additional $2.00 per hour weekend differential.
