Chef Manager In Training

This Chef Manager In Training role is a 6-month paid rotational program at Belmont Village Senior Living, located in Chicago, Illinois. The position prepares participants to manage food service operations at assisted living and memory care communities serving independent living, assisted living, and memory care residents. Training occurs under an experienced Chef Manager Preceptor with a structured curriculum that includes on-the-job shadowing, skills checklists, online modules, leadership assessments, and progressive responsibility increases. Successful completion leads to eligibility for Chef Manager positions, with a requirement to relocate to any Belmont Village market for the first assignment.

Responsibilities

• Rotate through all aspects of the food service program including high-volume dining service management
• Develop and execute recipe-based meal preparation while maintaining hospitality standards
• Apply leadership practices to supervise food service team members
• Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements for senior living food service operations
• Participate in monthly meetings, self-evaluations, and progress reporting with the Program Administrator and Executive Director Preceptor

Requirements

• High school degree or equivalent
• Minimum 1 year of supervisory experience
• Minimum 2 years of food service experience, preferably in à la carte or banquet service
• Experience with food service Point of Sale (POS) systems
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, basic computer troubleshooting, internet navigation, video conferencing, and ability to rapidly learn new technological systems
• Ability to work flexible schedules in a 24-hour operation including early mornings, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays
• Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal English
• Willingness to relocate after training for first Chef Manager assignment to any Belmont Village operating market
