Job Description

Senior Data Engineer role with HarmonyCares, a national value-based provider of in-home primary care services for patients with complex healthcare needs. The position is located in the United States, supporting operations across 14 states from the company's headquarters in Troy, Michigan. HarmonyCares delivers patient-centered care through an integrated, team-based, physician-driven model with more than 200 primary care providers.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with end users and product teams to translate business and user requirements into technical solutions that address performance, scalability, maintainability, security, and user experience
  • Produce clean, well-documented, quality, and efficient ETL code
  • Design and implement well-architected scalable data models and code that scales via rules engine designs
  • Debug and troubleshoot complex data issues and deliver timely solutions
  • Contribute to improvement of DevOps and ProdOps through automation of builds, testing, deployment, and monitoring
  • Conduct peer code reviews and provide mentoring and training to junior team members
  • Build scaled jobs and data integration solutions across platform types while applying best practices in security and network engineering
  • Train other developers and stakeholders on adoption of new solutions
  • Follow agile and scrum processes
  • Continuously improve technical skills, stay current with emerging technologies, and integrate them into the platform and development processes
  • Perform other job-related assignments as requested

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of hands-on data engineering experience
  • 5+ years of data modeling and solution design experience in the healthcare or health insurance domain
  • 5+ years of experience working in an enterprise software environment in a regulated industry such as healthcare or financial services
  • 5+ years of experience working with clinical and claims data, including familiarity with HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC2 compliance, EMR integrations, care delivery, and platforms supporting patients and providers
  • 5+ years of experience in enterprise big data platform infrastructure development
  • Most recent role in HCLS data engineering
  • Deep hands-on knowledge of modern big data processing practices, architectures, and tools, including cloud security
  • Expert-level Python and SQL
  • Databricks experience, with expert level preferred
  • Experience with data loading solutions in conjunction with a Spark-based data platform
  • Cloud architecture and security experience
  • DevOps and release engineering experience
  • Technical diagramming using Draw.io or Lucid
  • Healthcare data modeling and ETL development experience
  • Experience using AI tools to augment code development
  • Application of SDLC, DevOps, version control, and code deployment best practices
  • Application of agile software engineering principles and use of JIRA, ADO, ServiceNow, or similar tools
  • Deep understanding of claims data, provider attribution, actuarial services, Medicare/Medicaid data and programs, risk adjustment, and value-based care models
  • Master’s degree in computer science, information systems, or another engineering discipline (preferred)
  • Prior experience working with AthenaOne EHR configuration and API integrations (preferred)
  • Previous role as cloud solutions architect (preferred)
  • AWS or Azure cloud architecture certifications (preferred)
  • Hands-on development experience with DBT (preferred)
  • RDBMS experience with Oracle or PostgreSQL and OLTP basics (preferred)
  • API development and integration experience (preferred)
  • Distributed compute optimization experience (preferred)
  • Hands-on knowledge of Microsoft ADF (preferred)
  • Terraform (IaC) experience (preferred)
