Sr. Manager, Email Security Engineering

About the Role

Material Security was founded to protect the world's most sensitive data through email security solutions that stop sophisticated attacks bypassing traditional defenses. As Senior Manager of Email Security Engineering, you will lead the team building our core product, partnering with leadership to scale distributed systems and define the future of email security defenses.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of engineers with mentorship and career growth support
• Own delivery and execution of the email security product roadmap, balancing velocity with quality and reliability
• Drive architectural decisions for high-throughput distributed systems and backend infrastructure
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Product and Security teams to align technical strategy with customer requirements
• Establish operational excellence standards, including oncall rotations, incident response processes, and system health monitoring

Requirements

• Proven background as an individual contributor in distributed systems or backend infrastructure, with successful transition into engineering management
• Experience managing engineering teams in high-scale, high-growth environments
• Strong product intuition and ability to communicate technical constraints as product tradeoffs
• Demonstrated collaboration skills across Product, Security, and other cross-functional teams
• Comfort with startup pace, ambiguous situations, and hands-on problem-solving in fast-moving contexts
