Security Engineer

About the Role

Chainguard is seeking a Security Engineer to support engineering teams across Identity and Access Management (IAM), AI, and Cloud security. This is an earlier-career role designed for someone with a solid IT administration or software development foundation who is ready to grow into security. You'll report to the Director of Cyber Resiliency, work alongside senior engineers, and directly contribute to protecting the cloud, AI, and identity systems that power our product and company.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain Chainguard's technology platforms across cloud, IAM, and AI infrastructure
• Implement and sustain access controls, identity policies, and authentication/authorization systems
• Assist in hardening and monitoring cloud infrastructure alongside senior cloud architects
• Support securing AI/ML pipelines and agentic workflows as they scale
• Troubleshoot, automate, and maintain systems using IT administration or software engineering skills
• Document processes and contribute to runbooks, playbooks, and internal knowledge repositories
• Adapt to evolving priorities and quickly adopt new tools and systems as company needs shift
• Learn and apply security best practices under the mentorship of senior engineers, with opportunities to specialize over time

Requirements

• Strong IT administration skills and/or software development background
• Hands-on experience in at least one of: IAM, AI/ML infrastructure, or cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, Azure)
• Comfort with scripting, automation, and systematic troubleshooting
• Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills — you'll support engineers across multiple teams
• Ability to thrive in ambiguity and rapid change within a late-stage startup environment
• Team-first mentality with a genuine desire to learn and help teammates succeed
• Security experience or working knowledge is a plus, not a requirement

• Base salary: $105,000–$123,000 USD
