About the Role
Chainguard is seeking a Senior Security Engineer to architect and secure its multi-cloud infrastructure, which serves as both internal platform and core product foundation. This role sits at the intersection of cloud security and software supply chain protection, partnering with Developer Platform and IAM teams to design resilient, secure environments across GCP, AWS, and Azure. You'll report to the Director of Cyber Resiliency and help shape how Chainguard's cloud infrastructure scales securely as the company grows.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain cloud environments optimized for security, resilience, and performance across multi-cloud infrastructure
- Embed security into developer tooling and architecture through hands-on collaboration with the Developer Platform team
- Partner with IAM teams to design and enforce identity and access management strategies across all cloud environments
- Harden cloud platforms against emerging threats while maintaining high availability and resilience
- Build automation, infrastructure-as-code pipelines, and security guardrails using Terraform and Kubernetes
- Secure infrastructure supporting AI-driven pipelines and agentic workflows within the software supply chain
- Translate security requirements into practical designs that engineering teams adopt and value; share context generously and prioritize shared outcomes
- Define long-term architectural vision for secure, scalable cloud infrastructure
- Adapt architecture and priorities as the company scales and tooling evolves
- Support incident response investigations as needed
Requirements
- Strong, hands-on GCP administration experience (required)
- AWS and/or Azure experience (preferred)
- Solid DevOps background with Terraform/IaC, Kubernetes (GKE), and CI/CD pipeline expertise
- Software supply chain security knowledge, particularly SLSA framework (strong plus)
- Experience securing or architecting AI/ML infrastructure or agentic workflows (preferred)
- Staff-level experience architecting and securing complex, multi-cloud environments
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; ability to plan, coordinate, and build consensus across teams
- Comfort navigating ambiguity and rapid change; prior experience at a fast-moving or late-stage startup preferred
- Track record of designing systems that are secure, resilient, and accelerate engineering velocity
