Opal Security is building AI-native identity governance for enterprises managing complex access at scale. As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you'll be the technical bridge between Opal and customers like Databricks and Figma—embedded in sales cycles, implementations, and expansions to solve their identity and access management challenges.
About the Role
You'll own the technical customer relationship end-to-end. You'll lead technical conversations during sales, design solutions tailored to customer needs, and remove blockers that prevent deals from closing. Your work spans prototyping custom integrations, architecting deployments, debugging production environments, and writing code that sometimes becomes part of the core product. You'll translate business constraints into technical requirements and communicate complex engineering concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Lead technical conversations in sales cycles and design solutions that map to customer business needs and technical constraints
- Write code for customer-specific integrations, proofs-of-concept, and implementations—some of which get productized
- Drive implementations from kickoff through production, troubleshoot issues in customer environments, and build champions among technical stakeholders
- Contribute product ideas informed by field experience and identify patterns from customer conversations that should influence the roadmap
- Document learnings and help engineering prioritize features based on revenue impact
Requirements
- Strong ability to write production-quality code across the stack, with judgment about when pragmatism trumps architectural purity
- Comfort with ambiguity and self-direction—you identify customer problems and execute solutions without needing guidance
- Genuine interest in customer conversations; you listen well, ask thoughtful questions, and can calibrate depth based on audience
- Experience translating business requirements into technical specifications and explaining technical constraints to business stakeholders
- Willingness to work across diverse domains: Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform), identity platforms, integrations, and API design

- Competitive salary and early employee equity
- Comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage
- Unlimited PTO and 11 company holidays
