Opal Security is building modern identity governance for the AI era—intelligent access management that helps enterprises govern access without slowing innovation. We're scaling from product-market fit to sustained growth, and we need an engineering leader to guide our team through the next phase of expansion.

About the Role

You'll lead our engineering organization as we move from 0-1 to 1-n, balancing delivery velocity with sustainable scaling. This is fundamentally about people leadership: managing competing priorities, making pragmatic decisions about technical debt versus speed, and creating an environment where talented engineers can do their best work while staying insulated from organizational noise.

Responsibilities

• Guide technical strategy and architecture decisions, ensuring the platform scales while maintaining the agility that made the product successful
• Build and mentor an engineering team, understanding individual strengths and deploying them effectively against the right problems
• Balance short-term wins against long-term durability—knowing when to take on technical debt and when to invest in foundation work
• Protect your engineers from excessive context-switching while staying actively involved in technical decisions and code contributions
• Translate business requirements into clear technical priorities, filtering noise and helping the team focus on high-impact work
• Contribute to company culture and work cross-functionally with product and go-to-market teams

Requirements

• Strong technical background with deep understanding of platform scalability, architecture trade-offs, and systems design
• Proven track record as an engineer earning technical trust and confidence from peers
• Experience leading or significantly contributing to engineering teams, with a demonstrated ability to develop people
• Comfort with ambiguity and skill at translating organizational priorities into actionable technical roadmaps
• Recognition that different team members thrive under different management approaches
