About the Role
WorkOS is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a product engineering team building modern developer infrastructure for enterprise authentication, identity, and authorization. You'll operate as a founding member would—deeply technical, hands-on, and focused on shipping high-impact products that power some of the fastest-growing AI companies including OpenAI, Cursor, and Perplexity.
Responsibilities
- Build and lead high-velocity teams that deliver polished products rapidly
- Stay deeply technical: review code, write prototypes, and engage in implementation details
- Convert raw product ideas into working systems, including pragmatic early versions when needed
- Maintain team momentum through ambiguity, setbacks, and challenging customer requirements
- Drive clarity, focus, and sustained energy in sprints while maintaining a healthy pace
- Own roadmap alignment and develop expert-level knowledge of customer needs in your team's product areas
- Engage directly with customers and engineers to understand pain points and improve product craft
- Mentor and develop a team of curious, self-directed engineers committed to continuous growth
- Partner with internal recruiting to build an effective hiring pipeline and scale the team
Requirements
- Proven track record leading product-focused engineering teams in high-performing organizations that shipped meaningful results
- Strong coding background with active involvement in hands-on technical work; view leadership as amplification, not departure
- Bias toward action and pragmatism over process optimization; prioritize velocity, customer value, and learning
- Deep focus on developer experience—thoughtful about APIs, performance, edge cases, and usability
- Demonstrated experience recruiting, hiring, and mentoring top engineering talent
- Skill in building trust, delivering direct feedback, and creating conditions for engineers to excel
- Intellectual curiosity and commitment to continuous learning across technical and leadership domains

- 12 weeks fully paid parental leave
- Monthly fitness stipend for gyms, yoga, race registrations, and similar activities
