Notion is seeking an AI Applications Engineer to drive business transformation initiatives by designing and deploying AI-powered solutions across internal teams. You'll partner with GTM, Finance, and People stakeholders to translate ambiguous business problems into measurable, scalable AI applications—from initial problem framing through production operation. This role builds reusable evaluation frameworks, operational guardrails, and tooling that enable safe, repeatable AI delivery across the organization.
Based in San Francisco or New York City, this position requires in-office presence on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays (Anchor Days).
Responsibilities
Partner with internal stakeholders to identify opportunities from ambiguous problems, scope solutions, and drive iterative releases from conception to adoption
Design and ship complete AI solutions—problem definition, data preparation, model development, evaluation, and production deployment
Establish evaluation and production-readiness standards including metrics, monitoring, human-in-the-loop workflows, and safe rollout procedures for reliable operation at scale
Develop reusable components, tooling, templates, and playbooks that accelerate future projects and enable other teams to ship with confidence
Requirements
4–8 years as a Software Engineer or Data Engineer with a demonstrated track record building and operating production systems end-to-end (application code, data, infrastructure). GTM and Finance domain experience is a plus.
Proven experience building production AI applications using LLMs and/or classical ML, including prompt and tool orchestration, retrieval systems, evaluation frameworks, and iterative improvement based on real-world feedback
Strong production-readiness mindset: observability, monitoring, quality gates, incident response, and safe rollouts/rollbacks in live business workflows
Systems integration expertise across APIs, data pipelines, and enterprise platforms (CRM, finance systems, ticketing, HRIS); ability to navigate complex systems and deliver reliable outcomes
Impact-focused approach: you prioritize measurable user and business outcomes, stay current with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code), and make pragmatic technology choices
Clear problem-solving and communication: you synthesize context, align technical and non-technical partners, and translate AI concepts into actionable business value while navigating ambiguity
Collaborative mindset with strong cross-functional communication across engineering, data, and business teams
Familiarity with AI security, privacy, and governance practices including access controls, PII handling, vendor risk assessment, and auditability
Benefits
Competitive cash compensation and equity
Base salary range for San Francisco: $152,000–$250,000 per year (based on location, role scope, experience, and expertise)
