Engineering Manager, Mobile AI

About the Role

You'll lead Notion's Mobile AI engineering team, focusing on delivering AI capabilities that work effectively on phones and tablets. The role emphasizes making AI genuinely useful in mobile contexts—whether users are capturing ideas, staying connected between meetings, asking questions, or moving work forward away from their desk. Based in New York City or San Francisco, this position requires on-site presence Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.

Responsibilities

• Define and evolve the roadmap for Notion's core mobile AI surfaces, including chat, capture, agent workflows, workspace Q&A, and lightweight creation flows
• Guide new mobile AI ideas from exploration through shipping, using prototypes, user feedback, and product data to inform development priorities
• Improve production quality by identifying instrumentation gaps, reliability risks, and performance bottlenecks before they impact users
• Help the team build technical foundations that support fast iteration across mobile, web, and server boundaries

Requirements

• Engineering leadership: 2+ years managing engineering teams with a track record of shipping high-quality products at scale
• Hands-on technical leadership: Stay close enough to the codebase to guide architecture, performance, reliability, and release-quality decisions; able to make targeted technical contributions when needed
• AI product fluency: Hands-on experience with AI tools and understanding of how AI changes product development, engineering workflows, and user expectations (prior AI research experience not required)
• Execution under uncertainty: Ability to translate open-ended product bets into clear strategy, sequencing, staffing, and delivery plans
• Cross-functional collaboration: Work effectively across functions to define problems and deliver polished outcomes
• People leadership: Recruit and develop engineers, build inclusive teams, and communicate clearly through disagreement

Nice to Haves

• Experience leading teams building AI product experiences involving streaming UX, tool use, voice or multimodal input, evaluation loops, or reliability guardrails
• Background managing teams through 0→1 product development or rapid iteration on new product surfaces
• Familiarity with mobile platform concerns such as offline resilience, realtime collaboration, rich-text editing, app performance, or release quality at scale
• Track record leading teams delivering end-to-end product experiences across mobile, web, and server boundaries

Benefits

Compensation: Estimated base salary range of $255,000–$290,000 per year for New York City-based roles. Actual compensation determined by location, role scope and complexity, and candidate experience and expertise. Highly competitive cash compensation, equity, and benefits package included.
