<p><strong>About the job</strong></p>

<p>This position is needed to add to our Voice Connectivity Trust team in the US&nbsp; to enable Twilio to better support our customers using Voice in their solutions

As a Software Engineer on this team you will participate in all phases of the software development life cycle which includes requirements gathering with Product Managers, technical design, estimations, sprint planning, coding, testing, deployments and on-call support

This engineer will own, operate and maintain their teams’ services in a distributed production environment, employing Agile methodologies to continuously deliver value to customers.</p>

<p><strong>Responsibilities</strong></p>

<p>In this role, you’ll:</p>

<ul>

<li><strong>Be an owner:</strong> Design and implement real-time services with high throughput and low latency requirements, verify, deploy and operationalize them</li>

<li><strong>Wear the customers shoes:</strong> Work closely with stakeholders to understand customer needs and, devise and deliver, simple, robust and scalable solutions</li>

<li><strong>Write it down:</strong> Be comfortable expressing thoughts and ideas as detailed prose and use it as an effective means to collaborate with leads, architects and cross functional teams</li>

<li><strong>Be bold:</strong> Embrace the challenge of scaling a complex distributed platform with points of presence globally, each one concerned with high availability, high reliability, high throughput, low latency, and media fidelity</li>

<li><strong>Draw the owl:</strong> Figure out novel ways of solving customer problems for the Voice channel</li>

<p><strong>Required:</strong></p>

<ul>

<li>Minimum 2-3+ years of hands-on experience in a large scale, distributed applications environment on JVM based technologies&nbsp;</li>

<li>Experience building RESTful services, API design and event-driven architectures (Kafka, SQS)</li>

<li>Understanding of CI/CD pipelines</li>

<li>Hands on experience with cloud infrastructures such as AWS, GCP, OpenStack or Azure</li>

<li>Experience with on-call rotations, incident response, monitoring/alerting tools (Prometheus, Datadog, Grafana)</li>

<li>Excellent written communication skills - essential for effective AI prompting and for creating clear technical documentation (with or without AI assistance)</li>

<li>Proven ability to critically evaluate AI-generated code for correctness, security, performance, and maintainability</li>

<li>Strong Java fundamentals with the ability to architect, review, and debug code whether written by you, teammates, or AI agents</li>

<li>Demonstrated proficiency working with AI coding assistants (Claude, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar) - you should be able to describe your workflows and show examples&nbsp;</li>

<li>Bachelors degree in Computer Science or a related engineering field</li>

<li>Strong Computer Science fundamentals not limited to data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and distributed systems</li>

<li>Able to work well in a team setting and both highly motivated and motivating</li>

</ul>

<p><strong>Desired:</strong></p>

<ul>

<li>Can demonstrate with metrics how you have used AI to increase productivity</li>

<li>Experience scaling data tiers employing a variety of SQL/NoSQL database and caching technologies</li>

<li>Hands on experience scaling production backend systems, with the proven ability to design and develop horizontally-scalable, resilient and performing-under-load systems</li>

<li>Knowledge&nbsp; and experience working with SIP protocol</li>

<li>Knowledge and experience working with Stir/Shaken protocol</li>

</ul>

Compensation

<p>The estimated pay ranges for this role are as follows:</p>

<ul>

<li>Based in Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Vermont or Washington D.C. : $138,700 - $173,400</li>

<li>Based in New York, New Jersey, Washington State, or California (outside of the San Francisco Bay area): $146,800 - $183,600</li>

<li>Based in the San Francisco Bay area, California: $163,100 - $203,900.</li>

<li>This role may be eligible to participate in Twilio’s equity plan and corporate bonus plan. All roles are generally eligible for the following benefits: health care insurance, 401(k) retirement account, paid sick time, paid personal time off, paid parental leave.</li>
