The Patient Care Technician functions as a clinical support partner, assisting the patient care team by performing various tasks and procedures as instructed by a licensed professional

Additionally, the Patient Care Technician may assume the responsibilities of a Health Unit Coordinator Under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN), this position provides care for women and newborns

The Labor/Delivery Scrub Tech utilizes sterile techniques to prepare surgical suites for C-Section and tubal ligation cases, prepares delivery tables for vaginal births, and functions as an operating room technician, assisting physicians with surgical procedures. 📍 Location: Orem Community Hospital – Orem, Utah 🏢 Department/Unit: Labor and Delivery 📅 Shifts: Full-time | 36 hours/week | Three 12-hour shifts 🕒 Schedule: Variable, mix of days, evenings, swings, nights, weekends & holidays 💵 Pay: PCT/HUC Starting at $18.40 (based on patient care experience) 💵 Pay: Scrub Tech Starting at $18.94 (based on patient care experience) 🎁 Benefits: Health, Vision, Dental, 401(K), Education Assistance & more! *This is a Certified Nursing Assistant/Health Unit Coordinator position that will learn to scrub within 90 days of hire

For unit and personal growth, prefer candidates willing to make a one-year commitment upon successful completion of training. *Prefer Scrub Tech (CNA) experience and will be hired at Scrub Tech pay rate.

Essential Functions

  • - Patient Care Tech / Health Unit Coordinator Prioritize and deliver basic patient care, including toileting, bathing, linen and clothing changes, fresh water and ice, ambulating, comfort measures, and other patient needs, while providing excellent customer service when responding to patient and family requests. Reports and records patient care findings and data in a timely manner. Reports changes in the patient condition quickly and secures qualified assistance as needed. May perform telemetry duties as required based on the unit, and function as a patient care attendant by monitoring patients, addressing patient care needs, and collaborating with other members of the patient care team as required. Transport medications from the delivery system to the RN as required when working on a clinical unit.
  • Collaborate and consult with the RN and other members of the interdisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient care. May assume the responsibilities of a health unit coordinator, including answering phones, transcribing physician orders, managing unit records, organizing, stocking, and maintaining unit supplies. Implements plan of care as delegated. Performs assigned duties within Scope of Practice. Performs specialized procedures with skill validation and according to regulatory standards. Fosters a safe environment by complying with the safety policy and taking appropriate action in an emergency.

Essential Functions

- Scrub Tech Ensures that the patient room is ready to receive the patient with equipment and supplies necessary during the labor and delivery process May be responsible for maintaining and stocking birthing rooms appropriately

Assists patients with bed baths, showering, use of bed pans and restrooms, foley catheter care, and ambulation Obtains and documents vital signs of patients and newborns before, during, and after delivery

Prepares the room for vaginal delivery by draping the patient and preparing appropriate equipment, including the delivery table, and assists the RN Prepares the room for C-Section by preparing the patient, scrubbing for procedures, setting up and passing instruments, and completing all instrument, sponge, and sharp counts with the RN

Ensures sterility is maintained throughout the operative procedure Understands the plan of care and delivers basic patient care by collecting and documenting patient data and reporting patient changes to the RN

May perform clerical duties as assigned.

  • Certified Nursing Assistant Patient Care Scrub Technician Vital Signs Sterilization Techniques Ambulation Catheter Care Documentations Office Administration Catheter Placement Scrubbing C-sections Sterility Minimum Qualifications Current Nursing Assistant Certification (CNA) in the state of practice. Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.
  • Demonstrated basic computer literacy skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant in Labor and Delivery or Orderly CNA in the Operating Room (OR).

Physical Requirements

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies. Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations. Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc. Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items. Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.) May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
