Job Description

Summary: Assists in daily and ongoing operation, including oversight of processes related to: smooth flow of patients and most efficient use of limited, high tech resources

Implements a continuous quality improvement program to enhance utilization of these resources, establishes ongoing orientation, training, and continuing education program for staff and assists in management of quality and inventory control

He/She assists the Oncology Manager in planning for operational change/growth/etc. In addition, this position acts as one of the liaisons to the customers of the infusion center, including but not limited to referring physicians, pharmacy, IS, IP nursing, oncology navigators, etc.

Responsibilities

And Duties: 50% Performs duties of Infusion Nurse : Prepares patient for treatment; monitors patient blood pressure/pulse with electronic monitoring devices; starts IV's; infuses chemotherapies, antibiotics, etc. Responds to changes in patient condition; maintains cleanliness of equipment and work area; communicates with referring physicians related to patient treatment/care

Schedules patients for treatments Works in conjunction with oncology pharmacist to provide seamless service. 20% Coordinates daily workload of RNs, PSA and scheduling coordinator

Assign workloads, determine work priorities, include physicians in decision-making processes, handle emergency problems and serve as a resource person for staff and other hospital employees

Improves patient flow by scheduling workload to maximize utilization; coordinates preparatory procedures with nursing units, pharmacy, and physician offices; coordinates patient scheduling

Organizes and directs section personnel to minimize patient waiting time and maximize efficiency; monitors technical quality of patient care 20% Assists Oncology Manager with development/implementation of quality improvement program to enhance utilization of resources as well as safety/quality within the department

Serves as a liaison to IP oncology unit to ensure standardized practices between IP and OP setting Assists with coordination of orientation and training of personnel; instructs students and employees in training sessions; provides input into employee performance evaluations; assists in ordering supplies, establishing inventory control methods to assure operation within the budget, and monitoring technical reliability and vendor repair of units

Implements continuous quality improvement program to enhance utilization of resources; Maintain timely, effective, two-way communication with the medical staff to initiate and support collaborative clinical management practices, policies and procedures

Assumes role of Asst Manager or Manager in their absence. 10% Designs and implements orientation, training, and continuing education program for new employees, designs and implements on-the-job and self-study program to familiarize with the operations and patient care issues pertinent to infusion; ensures all staff ongoing continuing education beyond established departmental in-service program.
