Job Title: Staff Nurse (RN)- Oncology New Grad Nurse Residency Program- The James Department: James | James Nurse Residency The Ohio State University James Cancer Hospital Nurse Residency Program offers unique opportunities for newly licensed graduate nurses to successfully transition from student to professional through a Full-Time, structured, 14-20 week paid orientation to the field of Oncology Nursing

The James is one of 40 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers and is the home to pioneering cancer research, prevention and treatment in the progressive atmosphere of a dynamic university hospital setting

The James specializes in various areas of medical and surgical nursing specialties The Nursing Residency Program incorporates Patricia Benners theoretical model of novice to expert and facilitates socialization into the Medical Center through hands-on clinical experience, in-depth classroom learning, and ongoing professional and personal development

Each resident will be provided with support from a Nurse Residency Program Educator who has advanced Nursing education and experience in transitioning new nurses from students to professionals and in the clinical specialty areas

The Nurse Residency Program Educator is also responsible for scheduling, facilitating the personalized residency experience, continuously revising the track-specific orientation pathway and evaluating the progress of each assigned resident based upon the feedback of the multidisciplinary team and the residents self-evaluation to provide residents progression

New Graduate Nurse Residency positions are available in the following areas: Hematology Medical Oncology Surgical Oncology Progressive Care/Step Down (PCU) The Ohio State University Medical Centers mission is focused on integrating quality patient care, teaching and research

The Staff Nurse functions as a member of a team of care providers cultivating collaboration, enthusiasm, and mutual respect The team provides patient care and supportive services directed towards achievement of positive patient care outcomes, maximizing the patients involvement in his/her own plan of care, improving service levels, reducing the length of hospitalization, and decreasing costs

The Staff Nurse is responsible for managing and providing care to the patient and his/her family, and for directing and supervising nursing care provided by other members of the patient care team

The Staff Nurse is responsible for assessing, prescribing, implementing, coordinating, delegating and evaluating the nursing care of patients The Staff Nurse prioritizes patient care needs and provides leadership to, and development of, the patient care team

Additional Information: G raduate from a CCNE (Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education) or ACEN (Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing) accredited nursing program required; current licensure or interim permit in the practice of registered nursing from the State of Ohio Board of Nursing required; previous experience in a relevant care setting preferred; Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred

Location: James Cancer Hospital (0375) Position Type: Regular Scheduled Hours: 40 Shift: Rotating Shift Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check
