Job Description

Come work at the best place to give and receive care! ​Job Description: Part Time | 24 hours/week | 7a - 3p Who We Are: The Birth Place at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center is an 18-room Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum unit providing family-centered care for over 1,000 births annually

As a four-time Magnet-designated facility, we uphold the highest standards of nursing excellence, guided by AWHONN best practices and supported by the OBIX Perinatal Data System for continuous fetal monitoring

Staffed 24/7 by board-certified Obstetricians and Certified Nurse Midwives, our multidisciplinary team—including RNs, LNAs, Health Unit Coordinators, lactation consultants, and pediatric and obstetric providers—delivers compassionate, expert care in a seamless environment that includes a Level II Special Care Nursery with Mass General-affiliated Neonatologists

We promote ongoing education and certification in fetal monitoring, neonatal resuscitation, and obstetric emergency management to ensure safe, personalized care for every family.

About the Job

  • As a member of the Patient Care Services team, the Lactation Consultant assesses, develops, and implements a culturally appropriate plan of care to support the breastfeeding patient. This role communicates in an open, positive, and therapeutic manner with patients, their families, and the healthcare team What You’ll Do: Participate in development of breastfeeding handouts, protocols and education for staff and parents. Make appropriate referrals to support the patient’s desire to breastfeed (i.e. breast pump rental or Durable Medical Equipment providers). Incorporate age-specific, developmental needs, prevention strategies, and education into plans of care.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members to resolve inpatient and outpatient breastfeeding issues. Provide outpatient lactation consultations and telephone guidance to families. Participate in gathering of statistics, chart reviews or other activities to improve the quality of Lactation Services.
