Position Title Registered Nurse - Emergency Department PRN Great Bend Hospital Position Summary / Career Interest: Under the supervision of the nursing department's management, the RN assumes the responsibility for the nursing processes of assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation needed to deliver safe, evidence based care within their scope of practice
Shift: PRN shift varies Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions Collects and assesses initial and on-going data about the health status of the patient Initiates and/or revises an individualized plan of care that includes immediate and long-term outcomes for the patient/family and reflects the plan of the entire health care team
Carries out interventions safely and in compliance with policy to facilitate achievement of expected outcomes Evaluates patient response to intervention/therapy based upon expected outcomes
Provides patient education by explaining procedures, medications and giving instructions at a level the patient can understand; addresses patient’s questions and concerns; verifies patient informed consent when indicated
Documents and communicates all required components of patient care Provides direct patient care in the inpatient perioperative setting Documents and communicates all required components of patient care on chart forms, birth certificates, and computer
Initiates fetal heart monitor, performs vaginal exams, interprets fetal heart tones and determines frequency duration and intensity of contractions Monitors progress of laboring mothers, interprets fetal heart monitor and notifies physician when appropriate for progress or problems
Assists mother and labor coach with breathing exercises, pain management techniques and administers pain medication as ordered Prepares birthing room for delivery using strict sterile technique
Prepares mothers for elective or emergency Cesarean Section by following written C-Section protocol Provides emotional support to mother and coach, obtains proper consents and pre-op diagnostic studies and coordinates smooth transfer to surgery
Provides patient education by explaining procedures, medications and giving instructions at a level the patient can understand; addresses patient’s questions and concerns; verifies patient informed consent when indicated
Documents and communicates all required components of patient care Works collaboratively with the physician and the anesthesia health care providers to determine patient needs undergoing surgical procedures and to assume responsibility for patient care, document and evaluate the effectiveness of nursing actions and ensure a safe environment of care Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department
