Employment Type: Full Time (No weekends or call) 

Shifts Available: Days (Monday – Friday) 

Hours: 8 hour shifts – flexible scheduling 

Location: Providence Medical Center - Kansas City, KS

 

The Wound Care RN in our hospital will oversee the assessment, treatment, and prevention of complex wounds, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to ensure effective patient care. They also educate staff, monitor outcomes, and develop protocols to improve wound healing and reduce complications. 

 

Responsibilities

ResponsibilitiesEssential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but not limited to):

• Perform comprehensive wound and skin assessments and provide expert management of complex wounds, including pressure injuries, surgical wounds, diabetic ulcers, venous and arterial wounds, and other skin-integrity issues.
• Assess and document wound characteristics, including location, measurements, wound-bed characteristics, drainage, periwound condition, staging/classification, and signs of infection or deterioration.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized wound-care treatment plans based on patient needs, wound characteristics, provider orders, and evidence-based practices.
• Perform wound treatments, dressing changes, and other wound-care interventions within the nurses' scope of practice, competency, provider orders, and organizational policies.
• Select and appropriately utilize evidence-based wound-care products, dressings, and treatment modalities.
• Perform wound cleansing and debridement within applicable scope of practice, competency, provider orders, and organizational policies, when appropriate. 
• Monitor wound healing progress through ongoing assessment, accurate measurements, detailed documentation, and evaluation of treatment effectiveness; modify the plan of care as appropriate.
• Recognize and promptly communicate signs of infection, wound deterioration, ischemia, pressure injury progression, or other complications to the appropriate provider.
• Serve as a clinical resource for complex wound-care needs and make appropriate recommendations regarding provider consultation, special referrals, and advanced wound-care therapies.
• Ensure wound-care documentation supports accurate quality reporting, coding, reimbursement, and continuity of care.
• Participate in hospital-wide initiatives to promote compliance with CMS requirements, infection-prevention standards, evidence-based wound-care practices, and organizational policies.
• Coordinate wound-care needs across the continuum of care, including discharge planning and communication with home health, skilled nursing facilities, and other post-acute care providers as appropriate.

Qualifications

Education and Work Experience 1. Must have a current and valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the state.2. BCLS (AHA) upon hire and maintain current.3. ACLS within 30 days of hire.4. Previous Acute Care hospital experience preferred.6. Wound-care certification preferred, or plan to obtain within first year of hire from an accredited credentialing board (WOCN, ABWM)
