Job Description

Position Details

Work Shift: Day Shift (United States of America) Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Department: HLV Device Clinic Overview of Position: An experienced and highly skilled office practice RN

Performs independently (with MD oversight) in the technical management of implanted cardiac pacemaker and Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) devices Manages device patients and their care and implements treatment plans at a highly developed skill level in collaboration with physicians and other members of the health care team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

1 Assesses the patient clinically for device/rhythm related issues. 2 Assesses device (pacemaker or ICD) fully (either in-person or remotely) with full interrogation and identification of sub-optimal programming, abnormal findings and/or arrhythmias. 3

Evaluates effectiveness of care and care coordination progressing patients toward desired outcomes. 4 Provides basic interrogation, adjustment and programming to the device. 5

Troubleshoots basic, intermediate and advanced device issues. 6 Performs all work on devices and with patients as per protocol or specific order. 7 Develops and implements patient/caregiver teaching plan based on identified health education needs. 8

Demonstrates accountability in the management of device patients. 9 Collaborates with team including but not limited to physicians, RN’s ,LPN’s and MA’s to ensure patients’ issues and needs are addressed. 10

Demonstrates advanced and in depth knowledge and understanding of the device technology, the purpose of the implant, expected alternation in clinical condition, and potential device-related symptoms.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1. BSN and current Ohio RN License. 2. Two (2) or more years’ experience in Cardiovascular and EP. 3. Current CPR certification, or obtain within 30 days of employment. 4. Current ACLS, or completed within one (1) year of hire (Cardio Diagnostics). 5.
  • Ability to read, write and explain or describe moderately complex information to other hospital staff. 6. Attention to detail. 7.
  • Ability to communicate well in an oral and written manner, as well as the ability to observe, assess, guide, and evaluate others. 8.
  • Ability to read, calculate and prepare medication, and the ability to observe and analyze any resulting reactions and to apply clinical knowledge. 9.
  • Ability to collect data, interpret findings, set priorities and carry out established plan 10. Demonstrates competence in age-specific patient care. Promotes Patient and Employee Safety • Demonstrates safe Patient Handling (i.e. transfers, transport, care administration, nutrition, medication, etc.) • Demonstrates safe Materials Handling (i.e. appropriate use and disposal of chemicals, infectious wastes, etc.) • Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of Infectious Disease precautions and use of proper protective equipment • Demonstrates Slips/Trips and Falls Awareness. • Actively contributes to maintaining a safe, clean and quiet environment.

/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Answers telephone calls, uses personal computer and other business machines extensively, which requires the ability to apply finger dexterity. Individual bends, reaches, pushes and pulls file drawers to file records and reports. 3. Regularly lift or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. 4. Vision abilities required include up close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
