Senior Software engineer (Furnishing Platform)

Affirm is reinventing consumer credit to make it more transparent and straightforward—enabling customers to buy now and pay later without hidden fees or compounding interest. We're seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Furnishing Platform team and build the scalable systems and data pipelines that power our consumer credit reporting infrastructure. You'll work closely with Product, Compliance, Servicing, and Credit teams to design robust reporting systems that deliver accurate, timely data from our financial products to Consumer Reporting Agencies.

About the Role

This is a strategic engineering position where you'll own the definition and delivery of quarterly and long-term goals for your team, ensuring alignment with company-wide objectives. You'll drive architectural decisions for backend systems across multiple teams while mentoring engineers and championing operational excellence across the Furnishing Platform.

Responsibilities

• Own strategic outcomes by defining and delivering quarterly and long-term goals; lead engineers through ambiguous, open-ended problems with clarity and direction
• Shape backend architecture and technical strategy across multiple teams; ensure solutions are scalable, extensible, and aligned with engineering standards
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product, analytics, and design teams to define solutions; articulate technical trade-offs and risks to support long-term business needs
• Champion operational excellence by establishing strong monitoring, alerting, and recovery practices; drive improvements that reduce system fragility
• Mentor engineers within and beyond your team through code and design reviews; set high standards for engineering practices and foster a culture of ownership
• Scale impact beyond your immediate team by authoring technical proposals, documenting best practices, and advocating for improvements across the data engineering community
• Participate in on-call rotation to support system reliability and incident response

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience designing and building large-scale distributed backend systems
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin or Python
