Senior Software engineer (Furnishing Platform)

Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly. We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Furnishing Platform team and build scalable systems and data pipelines that power consumer credit reporting. You'll work closely with Product, Compliance, Servicing, and Credit teams to design robust reporting systems that deliver accurate, timely data to Consumer Reporting Agencies.

About the Role

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Furnishing Platform team, you'll own strategic technical initiatives that enable Affirm to scale its financial products and credit reporting infrastructure. This is a key position where your systems work will directly support the delivery of honest financial products to millions of consumers.

Responsibilities

• Drive definition and delivery of quarterly and long-term technical goals, ensuring alignment with company-wide objectives and providing clarity through ambiguity
• Design large-scale data pipelines and backend systems, influencing architecture decisions across multiple teams to ensure scalability and adherence to engineering standards
• Partner cross-functionally with product, analytics, and design teams to define data-driven solutions, anticipate risks, and articulate technical trade-offs
• Champion operational excellence by establishing monitoring, alerting, and recovery practices that ensure high availability and reliability of data pipelines and services
• Mentor engineers through code reviews, design reviews, and technical leadership, fostering a culture of ownership and continuous learning
• Share technical expertise through proposals, documentation, and talks that raise engineering standards across the data engineering community

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience designing and building large-scale data pipelines and distributed backend systems
• Strong proficiency in Python, Kotlin, or similar languages
• Demonstrated expertise building systems at scale with deep understanding of distributed systems principles
