Software Engineer II, Backend (PMI Integrations)

Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly. The Partner Merchant Interfaces - Integration team is seeking a Software Engineer II to lead projects building and maintaining APIs used by major partners like Amazon and Stripe to integrate with Affirm's platform.

About the Role

You'll take on significant ownership within a fast-paced team responsible for the partner and merchant-facing APIs that power integrations at scale. This is a backend engineering role where you'll work on designing, developing, and operating distributed systems that handle critical merchant integration workflows.

Responsibilities

• Break down larger projects into manageable tasks, deliver in phases, and collaborate with the tech lead and team to ensure on-time delivery
• Partner with product management, design, and analytics on ideation, articulate technical constraints, and participate in architectural decisions that balance risks and trade-offs
• Own the operational health of team systems by defining and monitoring key metrics, escalating issues, and participating in on-call rotations
• Contribute to team growth by participating in hiring and mentoring engineers
• Navigate large codebases, debug complex issues, and provide constructive code review feedback

Requirements

• 1.5+ years of software engineering experience
• Proficiency in Python or Kotlin for backend development
• Demonstrated experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems and APIs at scale
• Solid understanding of distributed systems fundamentals and hands-on experience with AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes
• Ability to translate business requirements into well-architected, testable, and maintainable code that interacts across multiple system components
• Strong debugging and code review skills
• Proactive approach to growth; comfort seeking and acting on feedback
• Clear verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration across global teams
• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience
