Staff Software Engineer

Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without any hidden fees or compounding interest. We're hiring a Staff Full Stack Software Engineer to join the Acquisition & Onboarding team within the Consumer org—a high-impact leadership role where you'll set technical direction, drive architectural decisions, and elevate engineering quality and velocity across mobile, web, and backend systems. This team shapes the critical first experience customers have with Affirm, building trust and clarity from initial interaction through onboarding.

About the Role

You'll operate at the staff level, defining long-term technical strategy, mentoring senior engineers, and acting as a force multiplier through technical depth and operational excellence. Working across product, design, and engineering, you'll build polished, performant, and accessible user experiences that directly impact conversion, retention, and business outcomes. This is a remote position based in Poland.

Responsibilities

• Define and communicate technical strategy for your team on a year-long timescale, connecting it to critical business-impacting projects
• Collaborate across product management, design, and analytics to ensure technical sustainability and manage risks and trade-offs
• Establish and advocate for technical solutions and operational processes that amplify team effectiveness
• Own team operations and availability by implementing monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, testing, and alerting to support on-call efforts
• Foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting code review and design standards, and advocating for them across the organization
• Develop team talent through feedback, guidance, and leading by example

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience as a software engineer
• Proficiency designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes
• Proficiency developing web applications using declarative UI frameworks such as React, React Native, or Vue
• Experience delivering major features, system components, or deprecating existing functionality through the full development lifecycle
