Affirm is hiring a Manager of Software Engineering to lead its Resilience Engineering team, responsible for building systems and practices that allow engineers to validate production behavior under stress and failure conditions. Based in Canada (remote), this role owns the strategy, platforms, and team development needed to embed production load testing and chaos engineering as core practices across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the resilience engineering vision at Affirm, prioritizing production load testing and chaos engineering as embedded engineering disciplines.
  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers developing platforms, tooling, and frameworks for safe production experimentation.
  • Partner with infrastructure, product, and security leadership to integrate resilience validation into the software development lifecycle.
  • Design and oversee the evolution of platforms enabling controlled production load testing and fault injection, including safeguards such as isolation boundaries, approval workflows, and automated rollback mechanisms.
  • Build systems providing end-to-end observability, traceability, and auditability for all resilience experiments.
  • Establish best practices, monitoring, alerting, and incident response protocols specific to proactive resilience validation.
  • Drive reliability improvements by systematically identifying system weaknesses through load testing and chaos experiments.
  • Enable engineering teams to adopt and execute resilience practices safely, working closely with infrastructure teams to design and implement guardrails.

Requirements

  • Proven experience managing engineering teams building infrastructure, platforms, or reliability-focused systems.
  • Deep hands-on knowledge of production load testing, chaos engineering, or similar resilience validation practices.
  • Experience designing systems with strong safety controls, observability, and auditability for production experimentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner cross-functionally with infrastructure, product, and security organizations.
