Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Infrastructure)

About the Role

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Trust Infra team, you'll own critical security infrastructure components and lead backend engineering efforts that protect Affirm's platform. This remote role focuses on secrets management, authentication and authorization, cryptography, certificate workloads, and core security components within our Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team, guiding engineers through ambiguous, open-ended problems while ensuring strong support throughout execution
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics teams during the product development lifecycle—participating in ideation, articulating technical constraints, and weighing risks and trade-offs
• Proactively surface project, process, technology, and business issues; advocate for solutions and lead resolution efforts
• Maintain operations and availability of team artifacts by establishing and monitoring metrics, escalating issues as needed, and contributing to on-call rotations
• Build a culture of quality and ownership by setting or improving code review and design standards, advocating for them across teams, and sharing knowledge through writing and tech talks
• Develop talent on your team through feedback, mentorship, and leading by example

Requirements

• 4+ years designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin
• Proven track record building highly available distributed systems with AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes
• Deep expertise in Kubernetes resource management, Helm charts, and operator patterns—particularly for security workloads
• Experience defining technical plans for significant features or system components with attention to elegance and simplicity
