Senior Staff Software Engineer, Frontend (Web Infra)

Affirm seeks a Senior Staff Software Engineer to establish and lead web platform and infrastructure strategy across all web engineering teams. This leadership role combines deep technical expertise with the ability to shape architectural direction, mentor senior engineers, and drive critical initiatives that impact the entire organization.

About the Role

You will define web development strategy and platform practices for Affirm's frontend teams, taking ownership of the technical vision that enables consistent, reliable, and performant web applications at scale. This position requires balancing hands-on technical contributions with strategic leadership—architecting systems while empowering engineers across the company and guiding cross-team initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Establish and drive web development strategy across all frontend engineering teams
• Lead improvements to the monorepo build and deploy systems, prioritizing reliability and performance
• Make architectural decisions on platforms, tools, and technologies that support consistency and reliability
• Define Affirm's web development AI strategy, including agent-based automation and workflow optimization, to improve delivery speed, code quality, and developer experience
• Design and extend core platform components and functionality to enable product teams to deliver new features
• Plan and build core platform software systems that scale with growing user bases, features, business requirements, and engineering teams
• Mentor senior engineers and build relationships with architects and product teams across the organization

Requirements

• 10+ years architecting, building, and scaling web applications for large user bases
• Deep knowledge of modern web technologies including React, TypeScript, NX, Oxlint, TurboRepo, RSPack, and Vite
• Proven ability to develop and articulate complete technical vision and roadmap, balancing detail-oriented work with big-picture system-level decision-making
• Track record leading critical projects and coordinating across partner teams for company-wide impact
• Extensive experience developing and implementing technical strategy that drove measurable improvements in system reliability and performance
• Prior experience in project management or people management, with demonstrated ability to influence, communicate effectively, and coach others
• Strong ownership mindset and ability to foster similar culture among peers
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
