Senior Staff Software Engineer, Frontend (Web Infra)

Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly. We're seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer, Frontend (Web Infra) to lead web platform and infrastructure strategy across all frontend engineering. This remote role in Canada offers the opportunity to shape architectural decisions, drive critical infrastructure initiatives, and mentor a team of senior engineers.

About the Role

You'll serve as a technical leader defining web platform strategy and best practices for Affirm's frontend teams. This position combines hands-on architecture work with strategic leadership—you'll drive improvements to build systems, establish platform standards, and help scale our web infrastructure to support growing product complexity and team size. You'll also lead efforts to integrate AI tooling into our development workflows and processes.

Responsibilities

• Establish and drive web development strategy across all frontend teams at Affirm
• Lead critical improvements to the monorepo build and deploy infrastructure, prioritizing reliability and performance
• Make architectural decisions on platforms, tools, and technologies that ensure consistency and support scaling
• Define Affirm's web development AI strategy, including agent-based automation and orchestration, to improve delivery speed, code quality, and developer experience
• Design and extend core platform components and systems that enable product teams to build and ship features
• Plan and implement scalable platform software to support increasing users, features, business requirements, and engineering headcount
• Mentor senior engineers and build cross-functional relationships with architects and product teams

Requirements

• 10+ years architecting, building, and scaling web applications for large user bases
• Deep expertise in modern web technologies such as React, TypeScript, NX, Oxlint, TurboRepo, RSPack, and Vite
• Proven ability to create and execute technical vision and roadmaps—balancing detail orientation with big-picture strategic thinking
• Track record of leading critical projects and driving company-wide results through partnership and influence
• Extensive experience developing and implementing technical strategies that measurably improved system reliability and performance
• Prior project management or people management experience demonstrating ability to influence, communicate, and coach effectively
• Strong ownership mindset and commitment to fostering an ownership culture
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
