Manager, Software Engineering (Developer Environments)

Affirm is hiring a Manager, Software Engineering for its Developer Environments team, based remotely in the US. The Developer Environments team owns ephemeral development environments and the infrastructure supporting environment provisioning, test execution, and automated developer tooling for 800+ engineers across the organization. This role reports to engineering leadership and partners with CI/CD, infrastructure, security, and product teams to shape the developer experience at a fast-growing fintech company.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the technical vision for Developer Environments and inner-loop developer productivity across the organization on a year-long time scale.
• Lead and mentor a team of engineers, establishing a culture of ownership and technical excellence.
• Own the design, scalability, reliability, and usability of ephemeral developer environments used in both development and CI workflows.
• Improve environment provisioning, stability, and teardown workflows to reduce startup time, increase success rates, and enhance debuggability.
• Implement monitoring, alerting, incident response processes, and operational playbooks to minimize downtime and developer impact.
• Drive measurable improvements to developer velocity and resource utilization metrics.
• Partner with CI/CD, infrastructure, security, and product engineering teams to align Developer Environments priorities with broader organizational goals.
• Collaborate with platform partners to tighten feedback loops and ensure environments integrate cleanly with build and test workflows.

Requirements

• Proven experience managing engineering teams in platform, infrastructure, or developer tooling roles.
• Hands-on background designing and operating large-scale distributed systems and infrastructure.
• Experience with ephemeral environment provisioning, CI/CD pipelines, containerization, or Kubernetes.
• Demonstrated ability to define technical strategy, establish measurable outcomes, and drive execution across cross-functional teams.
• Track record of improving developer velocity and platform reliability at scale.
