Staff Software Engineer (Continuous Integration)

We're seeking a Staff Engineer to lead our Continuous Integration team, driving the design, implementation, and optimization of build systems and deployment pipelines that enable engineers across the company to ship high-quality software reliably and efficiently.

About the Role

As Staff Engineer on the CI team, you'll own the strategic direction and execution of Affirm's continuous integration infrastructure. This is a high-impact position where you'll drive systems reliability and developer productivity across the entire engineering organization, while mentoring other CI engineers and partnering with leadership on long-term platform goals.

Responsibilities

• Systems & Operations: Own the design, scalability, and reliability of build and CI pipelines across multiple services and platforms. Optimize build times, test coverage, and developer feedback cycles. Implement monitoring, alerting, and incident response processes to minimize downtime and ensure fast, reliable development workflows.
• Collaboration & Enablement: Work across engineering teams to ensure smooth integrations and deployment workflows. Identify developer pain points and lead initiatives to improve productivity through tooling, automation, and best practices. Evangelize CI/CD practices to raise engineering efficiency standards organization-wide.
• Leadership & Strategy: Contribute to and drive the vision for continuous integration and developer productivity infrastructure. Lead and mentor other CI engineers, fostering a culture of ownership, collaboration, and technical excellence. Partner with engineering leadership to align CI systems with broader product and platform goals.

Requirements

• Proven experience driving and leading engineering efforts in CI, build systems, or developer productivity
• Strong background with modern build systems (GitHub, Buildkite, Artifactory, or similar)
• Familiarity with cloud-native environments (AWS, Kubernetes) and infrastructure-as-code practices
• Solid programming background in Python, Kotlin, Java, or similar languages with ability to guide technical decision-making
• Experience managing build systems and frameworks for large monorepos
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to balance long-term vision with short-term impact
• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience
• Active open source contributions or previous large-scale software development experience at a leading tech company (preferred)
