Software Engineer II, Backend (Capital Orchestration)

Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly. We're hiring a Software Engineer II for our Capital Orchestration team, which builds the platform that enables liquidity through the sale and collateralization of loan assets. You'll help ensure Affirm has the funding needed to originate loans, pay merchants, and scale.

About the Role

The Capital Orchestration team develops a robust, extensible platform for on-demand transactions with low operational risk, managing billions of dollars in collateral movement monthly. As a backend engineer on this team, you'll work on foundational systems that reconcile transactions across internal systems, partners, and cash movements while collaborating with cross-functional partners to design scalable solutions.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain core platform infrastructure for transaction reconciliation across systems, partners, and cash flows
• Design and integrate data pipelines from multiple products and systems
• Develop user-facing tools and interfaces that streamline workflows for business and operational teams
• Deepen your understanding of capital systems, funding mechanisms, and financial workflows at Affirm
• Participate in code reviews and collaborate with engineers to improve system design, code quality, and test coverage
• Work with product managers and business stakeholders to define requirements and validate technical approaches
• Break down complex projects into phases, deliver incremental results, and coordinate with teammates on timelines
• Partner with product, design, and analytics teams during ideation, articulating technical constraints and trade-offs
• Support operational stability by creating monitoring and alerting systems, responding to incidents, and contributing to on-call rotations

Requirements

• 1.5+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Demonstrated proficiency in full-stack web development, backend development, event processing, or batch processing
• Experience designing, building, launching, and maintaining products at scale
• Strong communication and collaboration skills across engineering and non-technical teams
• Ability to translate business problems into solutions involving multiple software components, writing clear, well-tested, and maintainable code
• Comfortable navigating large codebases, debugging, and providing constructive technical feedback
• Proficiency with agentic coding
• Experience with Python, JavaScript/React, Airflow, Spark, Horizon Portal, and SQL is a plus
