Software Engineer II, Back-end (Card Mgmt & Transaction Processing)

About the Role

Affirm is redefining credit by offering consumers flexible, transparent payment options through buy-now-pay-later solutions. The Affirm Card is one of the company's fastest-growing products and a major driver of platform GMV. You'll join the Card Management & Transaction Processing team, which builds and operates the infrastructure behind card issuance, transaction authorization, processing, account and card lifecycle management, tokenization, and platform security.

In this Software Engineer II position, you'll work on critical systems that directly support every card transaction at scale. You'll collaborate with product, design, analytics, and cross-functional teams to solve complex engineering challenges while helping shape Affirm's most strategic products.

Responsibilities

• Break down larger projects into discrete tasks and deliver them in phases with support from your tech lead and manager
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics teams during ideation and decision-making, articulating technical constraints and evaluating risks and trade-offs
• Maintain operational excellence by creating and monitoring system metrics, escalating issues as needed, and participating in on-call support
• Contribute to team growth by participating in hiring, interviews, and mentoring activities

Requirements

• 1.5+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Proven experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems
• Proficiency in Python or Kotlin
• Working knowledge of distributed systems architecture and technologies including AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes
• Ability to translate business problems into multi-component software solutions and execute with clear, maintainable code
