Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, offering consumers flexibility to buy now and pay later without hidden fees or compounding interest. The Money Movement & Card Ledger team builds the systems that manage money movement, bank data integration, and merchant data—critical infrastructure powering Affirm Card, a financial product combining debit card functionality with buy now, pay later financing. This role requires strong technical depth, cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to design correct, scalable, and extensible systems that support rapid growth.

About the Role

You'll work on industry-leading money movement infrastructure serving millions of customers across thousands of merchants online and in-store. With guidance from your tech lead and manager, you'll break down complex projects into deliverable phases, collaborate across product, design, analytics, and engineering teams, and ensure system reliability through metrics, monitoring, and on-call support. You'll contribute to team growth by participating in hiring and mentoring peers.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and launch backend systems and APIs at scale handling money movement and ledger operations
• Break down larger projects into individual tasks and deliver them in coordinated phases
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics to articulate technical constraints and evaluate risks and trade-offs
• Create and monitor metrics for system availability and performance; escalate and respond to operational issues
• Support on-call responsibilities to maintain system uptime and reliability
• Participate in the interview and hiring process to strengthen the team

Requirements

• 2.5+ years of experience as a software engineer
• Proven experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems
• Proficiency in Python or Kotlin
• Familiarity with distributed systems concepts and technologies including AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes
• Experience designing and deploying APIs at scale
• Ability to translate business scenarios into multi-component software solutions
