Software Engineer II , Backend, (Furnishing Platform)

About the Role

As a Software Engineer II on the Furnishing Platform team, you'll develop backend systems critical to Affirm's credit reporting infrastructure. You'll work across Product, Compliance, Servicing, and Credit teams to architect solutions that scale as we grow, taking on increasingly complex projects while mentoring peers and maintaining operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Break down larger projects into phased tasks, collaborate across teams, and deliver work on schedule with support from your tech lead and manager
• Partner with product management, design, and analytics teams during ideation, articulate technical constraints, and contribute to decisions that balance risks and trade-offs
• Maintain system reliability by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating issues when needed, and participating in on-call rotations
• Support team growth through code reviews, interview participation, and collaborative problem-solving
• Design and launch backend systems that handle distributed data pipelines and credit reporting workflows

Requirements

• 1.5+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Proficiency in Python or Kotlin with proven backend system design and development experience
• Working knowledge of distributed systems, AWS, MySQL, and Spark
• Ability to translate business scenarios into multi-component solutions with clear, testable, and maintainable code
• Comfortable navigating large codebases, debugging complex issues, and providing constructive code review feedback
• Demonstrated ownership of your professional growth and openness to feedback
• Willingness to participate in on-call rotation as required
