Software Engineer II, Backend (Furnishing Platform)

We're building scalable backend systems to power consumer credit reporting and data pipelines that deliver accurate, timely data to Consumer Reporting Agencies. Join our Furnishing Platform team as a Software Engineer II to design robust systems that support our product portfolio while partnering with Product, Compliance, Servicing, and Credit teams.

About the Role

You'll work on systems critical to Affirm's consumer credit reporting infrastructure, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to ensure reliable, accurate data delivery. This role offers the opportunity to grow your backend engineering skills while contributing to honest financial products that improve lives.

Responsibilities

• Break down larger projects into manageable tasks, deliver work in phases, and collaborate to meet timelines with support from your tech lead and manager
• Partner with product management, design, and analytics teams during ideation and decision-making, articulating technical constraints and trade-offs
• Ensure operational reliability by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating issues as needed, and supporting on-call efforts
• Contribute to team growth through participation in hiring and mentoring activities

Requirements

• 1.5+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Backend systems design, development, and launch experience; proficiency in Python or Kotlin
• Familiarity with distributed systems concepts and technologies including AWS, MySQL, and Spark
• Ability to translate business problems into solutions that span multiple software components, writing clear, testable, and maintainable code
• Comfort navigating large codebases, debugging code, and providing constructive code review feedback
• Demonstrated ownership of your own growth and ability to seek and incorporate feedback
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
