Senior Software Engineer, Backend (PBA - Growth)

About the Role

Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly. The Powered by Affirm (PBA) team builds the APIs and solutions that power all of Affirm's integrations with Enterprise Merchants and Partners, creating and managing the APIs and tools that drive checkout and merchant onboarding.

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Backend (PBA - Growth) team, you'll own quarterly goals, lead engineers through complex problems, and collaborate across product, design, and analytics to deliver reliable, scalable backend systems that support enterprise merchant integrations.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team, guiding engineers through ambiguous, open-ended problems while ensuring support throughout the delivery cycle
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics on ideation, technical constraints, and risk-aware decision-making in the product development lifecycle
• Identify and lead solutions for project, process, technology, and business issues; advocate for improvements and drive resolution
• Maintain operational excellence and availability of your team's systems by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating issues, and participating in on-call support
• Establish and elevate code review and design standards across your team and beyond, fostering a culture of quality and ownership
• Develop team talent through feedback, guidance, and leading by example

Requirements

• 4+ years designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages such as Python or Kotlin
• Proven track record building highly available distributed systems with AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes
• Experience defining technical plans for significant features or system components with elegant, simple, and extensible design
• Ability to make substantial changes safely in large codebases; demonstrated suite of tools and practices for yourself and your team
• Track record of taking ownership of your own growth and continuous improvement
