Senior Software Engineer, Affirm Bank

Affirm is building its own bank, and we're hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join the engineering team that powers it. You'll design and operate the core systems behind Affirm Bank—from banking infrastructure and data platforms to durable workflows and operational tooling. This is a startup-scale opportunity inside an established company: small team, broad ownership, direct impact on real customers under a real bank charter.

About the Role

You'll be one of the first engineers on Affirm Bank, operating with the autonomy and speed of an early-stage team while drawing on Affirm's brand, distribution, and customer base. Working alongside other senior engineers with direct exposure to bank and company leadership, you'll help launch the bank's deposit product, drive loan originations, and bring card issuing online. The team is deliberately small and AI-native; generalist breadth is expected, and the systems you build will set the standards the bank operates by.

Responsibilities

• Own bank systems end-to-end: design, build, integrate, operate, and lead incident response for cloud infrastructure, data platform, workflow orchestration, core banking configuration, CI/CD, networking, and Bank-to-Affirm integration.
• Raise team standards through code review, design guidance, and examiner-ready documentation that improves overall team effectiveness.
• Leverage AI tools and agentic workflows to multiply your output across code, design review, runbook generation, and operations.
• Manage vendor relationships end-to-end—integration, operations, escalation, and audit—for one or more of the bank's third-party vendors.
• Build compliance into systems from day one by partnering with Legal, Compliance, Risk, and Internal Audit to write decisions, designs, and runbooks to examiner and audit standards.
• Own the operational and security posture of systems you ship.
