Staff Software Engineer, Frontend (App Experience)

Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without hidden fees or compounding interest. The Marketplace and App Experience domain drives the consumer user journey across iOS, Android, and Web. As a Staff Software Engineer on the Frontend team, you'll shape technical strategy for our frontend surfaces and lead high-impact product features, migrations, and architectural modernization efforts across our mobile and web platforms.

About the Role

This staff-level position sits at the intersection of frontend technical strategy and product delivery. You'll work with React and TypeScript to coordinate complex product implementations, modernize our web architecture and design systems, and build tools and codemods to accelerate team velocity. You'll collaborate with product management, design, and analytics to ensure technical sustainability while managing the trade-offs inherent in critical, business-impacting projects.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute frontend technical strategy on a year-long time scale, aligning it with business-critical product initiatives
• Coordinate implementation of major product features from product requirements and design specifications across web and mobile surfaces
• Lead migration and modernization efforts for web code, design systems, and overall architecture
• Build reusable codemods, tooling, and AI agent skills to increase team efficiency and reduce toil
• Collaborate across product, design, and analytics teams to identify technical risks, trade-offs, and sustainability concerns
• Own operations and availability by establishing monitoring, on-call rotations, playbooks, testing standards, and alerting systems
• Set code review and design standards; advocate for quality practices across teams through documentation, code reviews, and technical talks
• Develop team talent through feedback, mentorship, and leading by example

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience developing and architecting web applications using declarative UI frameworks (React, Vue, or similar)
• Proficiency with JavaScript and TypeScript
• Demonstrated experience driving horizontal initiatives and leading across multiple teams
• Track record delivering major features, system components, or managing deprecation of existing functionality with clear technical planning
