Staff Software Engineer, Mobile (App Infrastructure)

Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly. The App Infrastructure team owns the shared mobile platform that powers every feature — including design systems, networking, observability, experimentation, CI/CD, app releases, and developer tooling. We're a small, technical group focused on shipping infrastructure other teams actually adopt and becoming the go-to experts for Affirm's mobile tech stack.

About the Role

As Staff Software Engineer for Mobile App Infrastructure, you'll set technical strategy for your team on a year-long horizon while driving critical, business-impacting projects. You'll act as a force-multiplier, defining and advocating for technical solutions and operational processes that enable the entire mobile organization.

Responsibilities

• Establish and communicate technical strategy for your team, aligned with business priorities
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics to ensure technical sustainability and manage risks and trade-offs across the mobile development lifecycle
• Own your team's operations and availability by establishing monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, and alerting to support on-call efforts
• Set and advocate for code review and design standards, sharing best practices across teams through writing and tech talks
• Develop team members through feedback, guidance, and mentorship
• Build and maintain tooling that other teams adopt, including design system components, networking infrastructure, experimentation platforms, and CI/CD automation

Requirements

• 7+ years of mobile application development and architecture experience
• 4+ years working with React Native
• Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript
• Hands-on experience with React Native and Expo, including authoring or migrating native modules and components
• Experience with complex state management in React apps; Redux Toolkit experience is a plus
• Track record performing React Native SDK major updates and debugging across the JS↔native boundary under New Architecture
• Knowledge of native OS releases and how they impact React Native applications
• Familiarity with mobile testing and observability tooling (E2E frameworks like Maestro/Appium, crash reporting platforms like Sentry/Crashlytics, experimentation platforms like Statsig/LaunchDarkly)
• Interest in building infrastructure and tooling that teams actually adopt
